WellCited vs AI visibility monitoring tools
Both tell you whether the engines name you. They differ in what happens next, and in what you are left holding.

What the two do identically
Both ask AI assistants a fixed set of questions on a schedule and record which companies each answer names. That is the measurement, and it is the same measurement: prompts in, named companies out, a number over time.
If the number is all you need, several products in this category do it well, and this page is not an argument against them. The question worth asking before you buy either is which half of the problem you actually have.
Where do they diverge?
At the moment the measurement lands. A monitoring product's output is a chart, and the next step after reading it is a ticket for somebody else. WellCited's output is the artifact that closes the ticket.
That difference shows up in three concrete places:
- The deliverable. Not a recommendation to add structured data, but the JSON-LD block for your page — plus the llms.txt built from your real page list, and your FAQ rewritten into answer-shaped blocks. Copy, paste, deploy.
- The verification. After you deploy, the fix is re-checked against your live URL. It is marked done because the page changed, not because someone ticked a box.
- The free half. The seven-check audit runs without an account, on any URL, in about ten seconds — including on us.
What do you keep if you stop paying?
The dashboard goes away in both cases. That is worth saying plainly, because it is the part every subscription page leaves out.
What differs is the residue. A monitoring subscription leaves you with a history you can no longer read. The fixes leave you with files that live on your own domain: an llms.txt at your root, a script block in your head, headings rewritten in your CMS. Those keep working with no relationship to us, which is the honest reason to prefer generating them over renting the observation.
Which one should you buy?
Run the free audit first — it costs nothing and it tells you which problem you have. If it scores you above ninety, an engine can already read you fine, your problem is presence rather than legibility, and a monitoring product may genuinely be all you need.
If it scores you in the middle and the bottleneck is that nobody has time to do the work, the artifact is the thing you are short of, not another chart. Plans start at $49 a month.
